Along a stretch of track between Helmond and Eindhoven railway manager ProRail recently conducted tests with a drone. The goal is to see if the UAVs may be used to monitor the so-called overhead contact portals for cracks or other defects. The drones can do such checks faster and with less inconvenience for travelers, because the trains can continue to drive: when a train arrives, the drone placed at a safe distance.
The following video explains how an employee ProRail will test the air in his work. The drone in question appears to be a Altura Zenith, from the Dutch company Aerialtronics. This type octocopter is also used by police and fire departments. Earlier this year, T-Mobile announced for this type of UAV to want to inspect her masts.
